Paint + Palette

Jayna is the face behind Paint and Palette. She designs and watercolors cards, stickers, and fabric patterns for our store!

My love for art started as a young child, sketching out birds and other things in nature. Over the years, as I watched my sister watercolor paint, I began to see the joy of it as well. I played around with watercolor for a few years and slowly got more depth. It’s been a joy to paint the little simple things in life, finding beauty in the mundane moments. Some days that means painting the backpack that I use every day, or maybe it’s encouraging someone with a painting after losing a child, or maybe something as simple as bringing in some nature from outdoors and mimicking the colors that God painted. It’s a constant reminder for me to slow down and find beauty in even the smallest things. About half a year ago, Beth’s Creations reached out to me asking if I would be interested in painting for fabric design. I readily said yes. I’ve enjoyed watching my paintings come to life as their designers place individual paintings onto fabric, creating designs for you to love. I am also blessed to be able to sell small encouragement cards there, along with waterproof hand-painted stickers. May you be encouraged and filled with joy through the talent God has given.

Sew EZ Patterns

Sew EZ patterns are designed by Ruth Zimmerman who runs her small pattern business out of her home.

Here’s a snippet from Ruth’s story.

My name is Ruth Zimmerman, and have enjoyed sewing since I was 11. My first project was a PJ set for winter. I remember it well, who wouldn’t remember an orange colored PJ! The fabric was double knit from my neighbor Sadie’s cellar. She would get end pieces from a factory and it was delightful to go sift thru it. Did my sewing always turn into something wearable? No. Not always. Mom would hold something up and say ”what is this”?

Sew EZ patterns started in 2017 when a daughter-in-law started a fabric shop in her basement. People would ask “do you have patterns for girls dresses?” She asked if I’d do some to sell. After study and fitting I came up with a line of sizes from 1-10.

Now we say sizes, but chest measurement is the most satisfactory way to buy a pattern. The length can be adjusted on the lengthen/shorten line. If you just lengthen/shorten without using the lengthen/shorten line then the waist grows narrower than the pattern. The chest is the area that gets more complicated to broaden. So that’s why we say “use the chest measurement when selecting a pattern”.

Sew Basic Patterns

Hello! My name is Michelle Oberholtzer. Although I am kept busy with my small business, my first priority is being a wife, mother, and grandma. My husband and I are blessed with six children, of whom two are married. In 2022 I added “grandma” to my name when our first granddaughter was born, with 2 more granddaughters being added to our family since then. Besides drafting patterns and sewing, I enjoy time spent with family, being outdoors, gardening, and scrapbooking.

My love for sewing and creating was born at a young age as I watched my mother sew and alter clothing for friends and family. I have sewn for myself, family, and friends throughout the years and have always enjoyed modifying patterns and trying new designs. In 2015, I started drafting custom dress patterns in my home and in 2016, my dream of providing women with basic patterns to simplify their sewing needs became a reality when I introduced my first set of Sew Basic dress patterns. From the start, I have always drafted my patterns fully by hand with paper, pencil, and scissors, before passing them along to other people to digitize them in preparation for printing. In the last year I have been trying my hand at digitizing patterns myself, with the goal of providing pattern add-ons via digital download. It seemed overwhelming at first, but has quickly become something I enjoy! I am currently working at adding more sizes to the women’s patterns, along with combing sizes. I also have a girls slim set in the works, with hopes to have them available by summer 2024.

Fun fact: I sew a dress in every size of each set before they are printed to be sure all seams align to my standards. My prayer is that these patterns will be a blessing to those who receive them and will encourage women and girls to dress modestly. Sugar and Spice Patterns

Hi there! I’m Jalissa Martin, the creator of Sugar & Spice Patterns. I’ve loved sewing ever since I was young, and as my skills grew, so did my enjoyment of trying new things and coming up with my own patterns. When my daughter was in need of a new pattern a few years ago, I came up with this one, made to mimic the Old Navy style dresses, but with a longer skirt for modesty. Then as she grew, she needed new sizes, and soon other moms started asking for the pattern, and so Sugar & Spice baby girl knit patterns was born! Now, as a mom of 5, with 3 being girls, I’m happy to have these patterns and to share them with you! May God bless you as you sew for the little girls in your life. And remember, sugar & spice & all things nice, that’s what little girls are made of!

Nita Patterns

Love wearing knits, but stress out about the sewing? Lanita, owner of Nita Patterns, says the first few knit dresses she sewed didn’t turn out either (and she’s a pattern designer)!

Here’s her story.

Hi, I’m Lanita. Among my many hobbies are sewing, drawing, computer design, photography… and in 2021 they turned into a pattern business.

I learned pattern drafting from my mom, and drew up patterns for her customers, long before I was brave enough to do the fittings myself. When I moved 2 hours away from home, suddenly I was the closest pattern maker for many of my acquaintances. With big rolls of paper and a pencil that forever got lost underneath, I fixed up their patterns or drafted new ones. Then knits became popular. The first dress I made was huge, even though I took it in here and there. The next dress was a better success, but I changed the neckline, the shoulders, the sleeve, the side seam, the waist—a half inch here, a quarter inch there—and wrote detailed notes. Finally I said, “I need a pattern with all these changes.” And I drew my knit pattern. It fit! In the spring of 2021, I was teaching English in Cambodia, until schools closed due to a Covid outbreak. I sewed for my teammates, for friends there, and also for some of my friends’ daughters back home. I used a raglan pattern that I had drafted for my nieces. It is easy to fit and quick to sew. When the dresses were delivered, I got requests for the pattern. I digitized it so I could print it out in multiples. That September, I was quarantined in a hotel in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, for two weeks, on my way back to English teaching. I set up an Etsy shop and added my raglan patterns. I wanted to add adult raglan patterns, but realized I needed a basic pattern first. I started drafting the Leia pattern while in solitary confinement in the hotel, then sent printable files to willing people to try it on. The Leia was drafted from my previous experience with sewing my own knit dresses. With more research on stretch percentages and sizing patterns, I went full scale, from XS to 4XL. I can’t just shut my creativity off when a project is done, so I always have more design inspiration in the back corner of my mind. The round yoke pattern is another I made for myself. To make an elastic or drawstring waist, the skirt and front bodice needed to be changed, so the Emma pattern was made. I have a tutorial for the smocked waist dress. The Holly pattern was a fun challenge to put together, and the shift dress pattern with it can be hacked so many ways. The maternity Holly is an absolute favorite. I have thoughts of adding shift tops to go along with it. A cape maternity dress is on the back burner, but ask if you want to try it. The nursing pattern is a popular add-on, only in my Etsy shop. My newest project is a girls’ Leia pattern, almost ready to be released! It is sized for knits, with a woven version coming after. It has a narrow chest adjustment to fit those slender girls, and a wide waist adjustment for the chubby ones. Look for that in June 2024!

The Nita Patterns line includes both cape and non-cape dresses. Here is a  YouTube tutorial for a smocked waist dress.

Hi! I am Melissa. The owner and designer at Simple Vision Designs. I am a stay at home mom of 3 littles and reside in upstate New York. I started my small business about 3 years ago when I got inspired to create these beautiful designs for the cups I saw everyone else carrying around! “Surely I can make one like that for myself” I told my husband. Well.. here we are 3 years later and my dream has become reality. I love creating designs and hope and pray you love them as well. Creating custom designs is a fun challenge for me as well! Here’s to creating many more designs and helping you make your drink just a little bit more enjoyable in a pretty cup!

Sword and Honey

Sword and Honey is on a mission to make Bible memory more fun and easy for children and mamas/teachers. They have Bible passages illustrated into coloring pages and flashcards. The flashcards have a picture and reference on one side and the verse on the other. We have 3 of their most popular coloring page/flashcard sets, Psalm 1, Psalm 23, and Armor of God.

Hi. I’m Charlotte Peachey, the product designer of Sword and Honey. My inspiration came from an article in the Motherhood magazine about Bible memory for children. The author asked if any artists would be interested in creating products to to help children memorize. I was interested. I started creating coloring pages for whole passages in the Bible. Lately, I’ve been joined by my friend Melody who markets my products for me. We’ve added colorful flashcards and incentive charts to our inventory. The latest work in progress is a board game that helps review verses while having fun! I have one daughter, so most of my work has to happen during nap time. But I thrive on coming up with new ideas to make Bible memory fun and accessible and in bringing those ideas to life!
